GOING BEHIND THE SCENES

A victims true and factual story!

(Be careful: It matters not if you're just minding your own business)!

This work is for three types of people!

Those who have been a victim!

Those who have never been a victim!

Those who are going to become a victim!

The attack of a maniac

Not thinking that before the night was out, I would be immersed in a
story of criminal violence, reconstructive surgery, Police and criminal
investigations, solicitors, Crown Court Trials and all that a violent
and physically damaging act of aggression would bring about! An event
that would quite literally force me to disengage from normal social
habits and day-to-day living for quite some time! An event that dragged
me from my relatively peaceful existence, into one of unending strife
and turmoil of rehabilitation, legal issues, compensation claims and
arguments of disbelief at finding a system that is mired in
self-sufficient and self-rewarding processes at the monetary and
emotional expense of the victim!

It came without warning or reason

One second I was moving toward the exit, the next I was on my back and
the strike was sickening in its violence as the two maxilla jaw bones
snapped jaggedly in two! The violence of my head snapping back, badly
enough to painfully compress the neck muscles happened in concert with
the jaw bones parting from the impact! The leading edge of his left
boot caught me on the lower right side of the jaw, scouring a
distinguishable black mark along the jaw line! The tightening muscles
and cold autonomic shiver in the lower stomach, forced an instant
reappraisal of the attack I was being subjected to! There was a sense
of spite and malice about this attack that raised the anxiety level to
a place where the mind had never been!

Gone was the surprise of this totally alien encounter with violence,
having been replaced by an acute sense of urgency in the initial
seconds it had lasted so far! The body adjusting its metabolism and
inwardly focusing on the critical components required for the immediacy
of survival mode! With thoughts becoming crystal clear and blood supply
moving to critical body functions, whilst shutting down redundant
systems! At the same time the mind dumping all secondary thoughts and
all in concert with instant positioning of arms, legs and general body
position in defence! A choreographed dance of muscles in reaction to
the threat and rage being shown in simple preservation and damage
limitation!

A slight shift of the body angle, a vitally important nudge of the arm
to deflect incoming blows, a half reflexive movement of the head to
protect what was left of the jaw! A slight pause while the attacker
drew breath, a reappraisal and then reaction to the continued
onslaught! More subconscious dances and still it came on!

Clenched fists, punches to the back, punches to the head, punches to
the kidneys, a sporadic kick followed by more strikes; an unceasing
onslaught, as lightening quick thoughts being processed in identifying
this as an attack designed to disable and render bloodily impotent! An
unending barrage of violent physical contact! A vague awareness of
someone screaming in the distance was also registering although
secondary thoughts made me realise at the same time that it was coming
from directly above me and inches away! It was my attacker, screaming
his head off!

His guttural, rasping screams reduced in its audible frequency, as one
of the six senses determined by it less of importance than the keeping
calm and focused on defence - much like a sportsman intently focused on
his craft does not hear the noise of the crowd! The attacker bellowing
and screaming his justification, as the vitally important focus of my
mind dealt with the requirement of protection! A red, blood
`star-burst' in my eyes and a short lasting `blackness' as a punch
connects, followed by a slight stinging sensation in the throat - a
stinging, tingling sensation that is experienced when having banged the
head hard against an unforgiving surface! Extreme concern filtering
through - a worry that this is going to result in something more
serious than that already suffered! An automatic suppression of panic;
fighting off the onset of random thoughts which result in it, where
logical thoughts give way to utter nonsense as an alternative to
rational thought - as that is what panic is! The thought of remaining
focused; taking it until it abates - but it was not abating - it just
kept on coming!! Keep protecting! Keep watching! Move! Deflect!
Protect!

My thoughts had recovered within seconds, from immediate surprise to
one of sub-consciously and consciously thinking about an effective
self-defence posture, as this was now the only option open to me! The
flight or fight reactions were now working on my behalf without much
conscious effort! The early and initial thought of righting myself and
getting off the floor and back onto my feet were abandoned and judged
as sensible on realising and accepting the now debilitating situation I
found myself in! Jaw noticeably and disconcertingly wobbling where
stability should be and the accompanying, disturbing thought that I
must at all costs protect against taking another strike to my face!
Amongst a range of emotions and thoughts that flow through the mind and
body under such duress, this persisted throughout the attack! It became
an imperative thought and maintained its presence in my mind above all
other thoughts at the time! Actually, it provided the anchor from which
all other ideas of defence which were being processed were subservient
to it!

Thoughts being actioned at lightning speed in order to meet and combat
this assault were assisting in maintaining a composure which enabled
the assailant to remain in sight! Watching and reacting to the oncoming
rage and spite in a concerted and deliberate effort to damage me
physically! A quick glance, the sight of a maniacal, scrunched up face
of terrible uncontrolled anger which gave the visible imagery of this
attack! A sight to force a dread concern in me that this person is now
out of control! I had never seen or experienced anything like it
before!

An accurate description

Thoughts of exaggeration into this attack can be offset to a degree by
observing the post surgical image above - bearing in mind that this
just one side and was the result of invasive experimental surgery to
correct the damage following the attack! This resulted in a supporting
plate insertion carried out over three operations! The surgical
processes to repair the damage is a story in itself and not just for
the operating techniques performed!

The reason and ferocity of the attack is unexplained save for the panic
driven defensive story they put forward! In fact an acceptable reason,
even in its most basic form, was never given! It was never supported by
any logical justification or rational explanation at any time! The
attack was captured in revealing clarity of video resolution and given
extra value by the zoom property that was used by the state CCTV
Surveillance Camera system, leaving absolutely no doubt as to who the
perpetrator was and what his actions were! The camera footage -
contrary to usual images we see was crystal clear - perfect resolution!
It was used during the ensuing Crown Court Trial extensively and
resulted in a conviction that not only destroyed the bizarre reason he
put forward in defence but also at the same time exposed the twisted
and somewhat frightening process of our legal system followed by an
exposure of something altogether more alarming beyond that itself!

An uncomfortable fact of life

It's an uncomfortable and inescapable fact-of-life that crime and
violence exists and exists in many different forms! Until it affected
my life, it was just another remote issue that happens to others, which
are published all too often in newspapers and other media outlets! News
items of someone else's misfortune which led me to voice a thought of
sympathy at the time of reading coupled with a sense of being unable to
do anything about it when reading of them! A disconnected and remote
event in the life of someone else! Out of the blue I find myself one of
the 120,000 violent crimes of physical assault as recorded and this is
I find, is an average year in the United Kingdom!

Again, this is not surprising; there is very little we can do about the
trouble that befalls others! However, what we can do is learn to be a
little more aware of how and why this sort of violence encroaches on
people's lives! As a result of reading the finer detail behind a crime
of this nature we learn some very important facts along the way which
allow us to increase our chances of avoiding it!

As with most people, when not having experienced events like this, the
importance of these articles we read of this nature, are soon overtaken
by other issues of interest! Issues such as price-rises and the ever
increasing cost of living - something that I would imagine has a
similar effect on most! This is not to say the detail of that
misfortune we read is cast aside with little thought or care
thereafter, it's simply that we are normally too busy with our own
daily affairs than to give more than a passing interest to it! Again,
most people who by-and-large are responsible and decent law abiding,
register a note of sympathy and also anger at the levels of violence we
hear about, but are left with a sense of futility simply by being
unable to do anything about it!

Most of these crimes that we read and hear of are totally bereft of the
finer detail that lay behind them! We hear of the headline event, a
brief summary of the background detail and that's it! What is of
importance and what could be of use to society in general are details
of what legal processes take place in particular cases such as this!
Legal processes that the unfortunate victim is subjected to beyond the
violent aggression they have suffered!

It may be of interest for a minute to ponder on why this might be? Why
it is that we do not hear of the finer detail! Well, in the first
instance Pre-Trial detail is legally protected by a court ban on public
exposure! It's acknowledged that this `detail' is by law prevented from
exposure so as not to be negatively influenced and rightly so! In other
words so that the case is not prejudiced by public exposure and
negative reporting!

Secondly there are two categories of victim! The first are those who
are commensurately compensated and are therefore not predisposed to
publishing their story, being happy to let if fade into the history of
their lives! The second are those who are `not' commensurately
compensated and are therefore not inclined to write up of such a
life-troubling negative event as a result! After all, why increase the
negative effects by reliving it?

A Process of learning and gaining an awareness This work, exposes a
unique true-to-life case of such a crime and what goes on after the
fact! It acts as a blip in the silence of such cases, leaving it
presence in place for those who may also become victims and who wish to
learn what they are about to become embroiled in! It primarily concerns
the United Kingdom but could also apply to other countries as acts of
physical aggression are no different! Physical injury and the nature of
those injuries are not governed by the nature of a country's laws! It
also serves the purpose of educating and enlightening those who have a
need to be aware of the pitfalls and dangers of social interaction and
how to avoid these events by gaining an awareness that is not published
elsewhere on a common basis! In doing so, it tells the uninitiated what
it is like to come into contact with the legal system that purportedly
serves the interests of an innocent and law abiding public! We find the
self-serving mechanism of that system with its solicitors and
barristers, Police and legal agents employing a system that has become
warped! It demonstrates a system that caters more for the criminal than
it does the victim! It serves a public interest element in detailing
behind the scenes events! It also describes what happens to both the
victim and the assailant during the legal phase! Written in
non-legal-jargon, it tells of the process from a lay-persons
perspective! In describing such an event, there is only so much one can
say to highlight its content-value without adding additional and
unnecessary emphasis just for the sake of improving an already
horrendous story line!

The content gives good grounding as to how the law has changed in
recent years with respect to how the victim of crime is treated and is
a strong indicator as to how dangerous such incidents of violence
actually are to the victim, not just from being subjected to violence
but from the system that places the burden of proving innocence not
upon the assailant but upon the subject of their violence! This comes
in the form of the weight of evidence that `has' to be shown or proven
by the `victim' in subservience to the perpetrator! It also discloses
an utterly horrendous aspect of this where the criminal's culpability
is quite literally reduced depending upon what the reaction of the
victim is to defence concoctions! In other words is signifies that we
cannot place our faith in the legal system as we have been educated to
and brings the reality of this into sharp and frightening focus! As a
result we have to learn the finer points of how it works so that we can
at least offset the disadvantages of it before we encounter it! And
being forewarned is forearmed and being forearmed can mean the
difference between failure of a case brought before a court of law and
abused in its process before doing so! And this can be done more
effectively by reading of a real live case as opposed to learning from
text books!

To close, it is not just a case of a criminal abusing the system that a
victim has to counter - it is also the intimidating and combative
environment that a court of law is designed to be! But knowing how and
why this is can be countered in itself so that the wrong impression is
not solicited by way of this process by a nervous or frightened witness
which only serves for jury's to reach incorrect conclusions!
Understanding how and why this works allows anyone standing before a
jury not only to counter the mechanics of fear that a court puts into
play, but allows one who has to attend to play it back on them! It is
interesting to note that a court of law is not really about finding
truth - it is about who plays the most creditable witness in the face
of combative questioning! Wrong - of course it is, but learning how it
works from the detail of a live case can make the difference!

The revelations contained within the story-line of a ten chapter book
of 211 pages, provide lessons that most people who engage in normal
social entertainment activities should know about! Dangers that lie in
wait for the unsuspecting - much like the spiders web awaits the
unsuspecting insect! A trap that cannot be extricated from once
ensnared by it!
